an explanation.
I'm one of those people who starts a million projects and never finishes
any of them -- so much so that writing a story, or even recording a
single song is an accomplishment. So when a 4-track falls into your
possession, and you have some new
instruments and time on your hands, you start to feel that itch to make
something. Or maybe to just let go and let it out.
Towards the end of May, I found a photo online, for "P.A. Peterson's
Skate Shop," at
1932 1st Avenue in Moline, IL. It was the perfect inspiration, and a
great title. In a way, it was that necessary push in the right
direction. See, there was something evocative about that photo to me --
like one of those places that makes you feel like you stepped into
another world or something. It made me want to record; to pull out old
songs of mine, to record covers of other artists, to just make music and
worry only about the moment of the song, not "perfection." I want this music to
be alive -- I want it to take you in, and create a moment in
your mind. Pretty grandiose, eh? I don't even know what it takes to make
music like that. Is it perfection or masterful engineering? Or is it
something else?
